Vitiligo: Millions Suffer From It


Vitiligo is a kind of skin disease which is indicative of a pigmentation disorder. When melanocytes in the skin are destroyed, the production of pigment is inhibited. Due to a lack of pigment, white patches appear on various parts of the skin, such as the neck, face, legs, and back. Sometimes the hair that grows on areas with white patches turns white.   • Avoid vitamin C, including vegetables and fruits which are rich in vitamin C, like green peppers, tomatoes, oranges and grapefruits, as the ascorbic acid in these tends to reduce melanin pigmentation.

  • Higher intake of copper can accelerate the production of melanin, so food rich in copper, such as mussels, is helpful in the natural treatment of vitiligo.

  • Take in enough fluids. Drink at least six glasses of water everyday. Intake of fluid can be helpful for skin protection and recovery.

  • Other things to be careful of are milk, fish, meat, dairy foods, eggs, lemons, grapes, pickles, kiwi fruits, chocolate, ice cream, flavored drinks, and alcohol.

  • Consume more green leafy vegetables, beet roots, carrots, radishes and dates as these foods can change the physiology and biochemistry of the skin with their natural pigments.


  • Avoid long exposure to the sun!



    Everyone knows that the sunshine is helpful for the synthesis of vitamin D, but this doesn't mean that the longer we expose ourselves to the sun, the better. In fact, small doses of sunlight can give you full vitamin D benefits. Ultra-violet, or UV, rays from the sun actually convert irgasterol to vitamin D. However, those suffering from vitiligo should avoid to direct sunlight, which can worsen the symptoms and even cause other complications.



    A good mood is also helpful in vitiligo treatment as the disease is related to emotional fluctuation.
