From mild annoyance and small rashes to extremely itchy, painful, bleeding sores eczema is a terrible condition for anyone to have. While eczema cannot be cured it can be controlled with a good eczema treatment that strengthens the body against the awful symptoms. These three treatments that are proven to work may seem like common sense but they are vitally important for your healthy skin.
Most eczema pharmaceutical treatments like corticosteroids have side effects and therefore should be used only for a certain period of time, typically 5-10 days. While eczema symptoms disappear while on treatment, once treatment is stopped, eczema flare up re-occurs.
Some people even scratch to the point of breaking skin, when this does happen it is important to have a product that is anti-baterial, anti-microbial, anti-fungul. What does all that mean? It means that it will stop any infection if it ever occurred. Which is prone if you have split skin, or scratch to the point of breaking skin.
Use bland moisturizers without dyes and perfumes. Make sure to use a moisturizer every time you bathe. Choose a greasy formula to moisturize skin if eczema is severe and skin is extremely dry. Examples are petroleum jelly or vegetable shortening.
Evening Primrose Oil: This has been known to cure skin conditions because it contains a chemical called gamma linoleic acid. The acid has been known to have a mild positive effect on the inflammation of skin. Apply it to the infected areas and you will notice it may get rid of eczema and alleviate the symptoms; while it works for certain people it has not been known to work for everyone. Medical science has never proven the effectiveness of eczema treatment; and you will not find many doctors who will prescribe it to there patients.
Avoid using detergents as much as possible. Detergents can exacerbate the skin irritation eczema sufferers are subjected to. Most detergents are made from petrochemicals, which increase the skin membrane's permeability. Sodium lauryl sulphate, for example, which is a common household detergent, has been shown to amplify the penetration of antigens on your skin.
Make a paste from the herb goldenseal and vitamin E oil. Use goldenseal in a powdered form, and mix with a little bit of vitamin E oil; add a small amount of honey and make a paste. Apply to inflamed area.
Getting rid of eczema is tricky. You maybe responding well to a medication for two weeks then suddenly, your medication has no effect. People with eczema are now discovering the benefits of natural herbal treatments which are gentler, more effective when used for long periods of time and more importantly, does not carry side effects.
