How to Be Married with Kids

Isn’t it interesting how things can change when you children come into your life; it’s the best thing that can ever happen to you, next to marrying your best friend. However; when they do come, so do the winds of change. No matter how prepared you are for the little ones, your lives will change. Your priorities, responsibilities, and of course your marriage will all be effected by your sweet little ones. The question is; how can you maintain your relationship with your spouse, once the kids come into the scene? Here are a few tips to help you stay close to them.

One of the most important things that you can do to keep you relationship with your spouse strong is to continue to communicate. Times are going to get stressful and your patience will often be tested, so it will be easy not to talk, but you have to keep doing that. Tell each other about how you are feeling, and how you appreciate their help. Obviously there are things which you can point out that are negative, but work on finding the positives behind all of your frustrations and express those. Laugh and talk about the happiness that your new addition has brought into your lives.

Put the kids to be early. Kids need their sleep and you and your spouse definitely need the time to spend together. Raising children can be exhausting work, for both the husband and the wife, no matter what roles they might fulfill. You each need the break to recharge your batteries and get to know each other day by day. You will find that some of the most memorable experiences in your marriage will be shared during these times.

Keep dating each other. Just because you have kids and your have been married for years doesn’t mean you can stop dating each other. You both need to get out and spend quality time together to remind each other of why you came together in the first place. Take the time to laugh, talk, and do things which you both enjoy away from the responsibilities at home. This is a time where you can leave everything else behind for a few hours and just enjoy the evening or day together. Your kids will be fine with the babysitter.

Remember to say I love you. These three words mean so much to both parties. It is a term of endearment, appreciation, and most importantly it lets them know how you feel. Men and women need to hear these words, and at the end of a hard day of work, nothing can be more soothing. Enjoy your children because they will only stay little for a while, but don’t forget that you are married and have a responsibility to your spouse’s happiness as well.
