Everyone is looking for that SEO shortcut and I thought the title of this article might get everyone’s attention. The problem with SEO is there are no shortcuts. Sorry if I mislead you there but I really needed your attention. Some might disagree with me and say that there are, but those techniques are probably considered spam by the search engines. Yes this might get you to the top for a while, but once the search engines catch onto what you are doing then you will get banned.



Once a search engine bans you it’s nearly impossible to recover from this. So why does it take so long to do search engine optimisation? I will explain a few reasons why.



Let’s say you submit your website to a directory, now most good directories will have a backlog of sites to check. As most good directories are human edited and it takes a while to go through the backlog. This process can take months and even in some cases years. Once your website is listed you will need to wait till the search engine finds this page and index it. This process can take up to a month or longer. The search engine also has to credit you with the back link that they have found on this new indexed page.



If you have no patience then SEO is not for you. I also think you have to really enjoy what you do to be successful in this field. As it can be a repetitive job.



So what is the answer do you cheat for that quick way to the top, all be it short lived or do you do the hard work and wait for the results? Well the choice is up to you.
