Blackpool situated on the Fylde Coast in North West England is one of the most famous seaside resorts in the UK. The first railway line was opened in 1840 and from then on more lines were constructed allowing visitors to travel there from various towns in the North West.

The mid 19th century onwards saw Blackpool thrive as it was then an up market holiday destination and thus many amenities was installed such as further railways lines, a church, gas light and a piped water supply. Between 1856 and 1894 the North Pier, Central Pier, promenade and the Blackpool Tower were built.

The population was recorded at 14,000 in 1881 but by 1907 it was 41,000 and then 1951 it had sawed to 147,000. It then levelled off but the growth of this area is very evident by the population figures.

Blackpool has not been as well thought of or popular is recent years but this is due to change with the prospect of a new pleasure park on the seafront and the much regeneration that has already been done. The new seafront park is aiming to bring a greater sense of safety and security to that area of the front.

You'll need at least a week's holiday if not more in Blackpool to cram in the huge choice of family attractions here in one of the UK's top family holiday hotspots. The attractions list is endless and constantly moving with the times, catering for all age ranges of children. Blackpool Pleasure Beach is Britain's top family amusement park with cutting edge major rides and roller coasters, shows and plenty of gentler family rides for the tots. Blackpool Central and South Pier are family hotspots, particularly Central Pier with amusements and big wheel. Within a short distance of these attractions are any excellent Blackpool hotels and Blackpool B&B accommodation.

Sandcastle Waterpark on Blackpool Prom is the UK's biggest indoor waterpark with 18 slides and water attractions. The Blackpool Tower & Circus experience can easily fill a whole fun packed day inclusive of circus show, Jungle Jim's Indoor Adventure Land, Tower Top Trip, Aquarium and Magic Show. A cluster of great Blackpool family attractions sit just 2 miles inland around Stanley Park including Blackpool Zoo and Model Village. Louis Tussaud's Waxworks, the Sealife Centre and for fun oddities Ripley's Believe it or Not are all more firm Blackpool family favourites. Add to this Blackpool's endless sandy beach, flat level promenade, three bustling piers and a huge choice of family restaurants and family shows at Pleasure Beach, the Grand and North Pier Theatre and you have all you need for a fun packed family seaside holiday.
